Local 34 Elections - 2008

Update 5/1/2008: Joe Weston, Elections Chair, and volunteers, Betty Pharr, Vern Wagner, Vicki Moore and myself, sorted and counted all of the ballots received from our members for this years contested officer elections.  The results of the elections are as follows:

Local 34 held their final nominations for officers at our March General Assembly meeting. The results are as follows. Voting will be done by mail-in ballot - see formal notice below for further information and voting instructions.

The uncontested offices were elected by white ballot.

We will have a mail ballot election in April 2008. Joe Weston, our Elections Chair, will have a short article in the April newsletter with information about voting. Ballots will be sent out to all members with voting instructions. If you have moved and are not sure that we have your correct address, please contact me, via e-mail, so that we can make sure you are sent a ballot.

If anyone can assist Joe on the Elections Committee, please let me know right away. Those duties will mainly consist of checking all the returned envelopes against our membership list, opening all the envelopes and counting the ballots. It is a one-night commitment (unless a run-off election is necessary).

TO:   Members of AFSCME Local 34

During the period April 7th, through April 28th, 2008 an election will held for any contested offices.

Nominations will be made by the Nominations Committee at the General Membership meetings February 6th, 2008, at 5:15 PM, in room 112 of the HSB (Health Services Building), 525 Portland Ave. S., Minneapolis MN and March 5th, 2008, at 5:15 PM, in Room 110, HSB (Health Services Building), 525 Portland Ave S., Minneapolis MN.  All interested parties may contact the Nominations Committee Chairperson, Deanna DeLoach, at 612-348-2194 or attend the February or March membership meetings.  To be eligible for nomination to any office, other than delegate, a member must be in continuous good standing for one year immediately preceding the February nomination meeting.

Voting will be done by mail-in ballot in the following manner: Beginning Monday, April 7th, a ballot will be mailed to each member’s last known address. In addition to the ballot there will be 2 envelopes in the mailing.  A self addressed stamped envelope will be provided to return the marked ballot. Members should print and sign the back of the return envelope.  A ballot envelope will be available to keep the voting private.  Members will mark their ballots, seal them in the ballot envelope, place the ballot envelope in the return envelope, print and sign their names on the return envelope, and mail the return envelope. All offices will be voted on by the general membership. Members will have until Monday, April 28th, to return their marked ballot. Any ballots postmarked after April 28th will not be counted.

Ballots will be counted on Thursday May 1st, 2008 at 5:00 PM at the Local 34 office, Room 488, United Labor Center Building, 312 Central Ave. NE., Minneapolis MN.
