Who Is AFSCME LOCAL 34

AFSCME LOCAL 34 - Established in April 1950. AFSCME Local 34 represents over 2000 employees of Hennepin County. As a member, you become a supporter in our efforts to maintain and improve working conditions for everyone. Of those 2000+ members, we represent workers such as Human Service Representatives, Child Support Officers, Volunteer Coordinators, Public Health Nurses, Financial Case Aides, Social Workers, Child protection Workers, Psychologists, and Chemical Dependency Counselors. _______________________________________________________________________________________

AFSCME Local 34 Mission Statement: 

To unite Hennepin County employees within the jurisdiction of AFSCME for mutual welfare, protection, and advancement.  

To work for the establishment and maintenance of fair salaries, reasonable working hours, adequate working conditions, and fair personnel practices. 

To foster and promote a good understanding between the employees, their employer, and the public.  

To fulfill our commitment to social justice for all people through the reasonable use of Union energies and resources.

Hennepin County AFSCME Locals: There are six different AFSCME locals within Hennepin County: Local 34 - Social Services and related, Local 552 – Probation and Parole, Local 1719 – Adult Corrections  / Work House, Local 2822 – Clerical and related, Local 2864 – Professional (Librarians), and Local 2938, Legal. 

We all belong to the same AFSCME Council, AFSCME Council 5 and the same AFSCME International Union.

CONTRACT: The contract can be viewed and referenced by going to the AFSCME Local 34 web site at: www.afscmelocal34.org. In addition, each Local 34 steward should have a hard copy of the contract. 

NEWSLETTER: The Local 34 Banner, which is Local 34’s Newsletter, is published on a monthly basis.
